I have only this to say

What are you saying in the background of "I Palindrome I"?

JL: The background vocals are a couple of palindromes: "Man o nam," which doesn't really mean anything, and "Egad, a base tone denotes a bad age," of which you can make what you will.

Well, that and that the following I heard today and found it interesting:

Hey, hovering sombrero
Gently waving in the air above the meadow
Softly floating in the sky outside the window
Hovering sombrero, don't be shy
Don't
Don't be shy
Don't be terrified (don't)
When you take yourself for granted (don't)
Feel rejected and unwanted, know
You're never just a hat (no)
You're never only just a hat, you know (no)

Hovering sombrero
Hovering sombrero

Time is flying like an arrow
And the clock hands go so fast, they make the wind blow
And it makes the pages of the calendar go
Flying out the window, one by one
'Til 100 years are on the front lawn (no)
And the old, familiar things are mostly all gone
But the old sombrero just keeps hovering on (no)
Hovering sombrero, hover on

Don't be burdened by regrets or make (no)
Your failures an obsession
Or become embittered or possessed by ruined hopes (no no)
Remember, when you take yourself for granted (no)
Feel rejected and unwanted, know (no)
You're never just a hat (no)
You're never only just a hat, you know (no)

This above all:

To thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the
night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.

Shakespeare said that.

It is one of the fundamental properties of life on this rock that what is right is not always easy. Another is that even if it's not easy, it's still right. You can walk through the fire to a better day, or you can take the easy way and pay a dear price at the end of the road.

I said that.

You want a donut?

Ben said that.

No, thanks. I already had one.

I said that.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Alice said that.

The Bellman, who was almost morbidly sensitive about appearances, used to have the bowsprit unshipped once or twice a week to be revarnished, and it more than once happened, when the time came for replacing it, that no one on board could remember which end of the ship it belonged to. They knew it was not of the slightest use to appeal to the Bellman about it -- he would only refer to his Naval Code, and read out in pathetic tones Admiralty Instructions which none of them had ever been able to understand -- so it generally ended in its being fastened on, anyhow, across the rudder. The helmsman used to stand by with tears in his eyes; he knew it was all wrong, but alas! Rule 42 of the Code, "No one shall speak to the Man at the Helm," had been completed by the Bellman himself with the words "and the Man at the Helm shall speak to no one." So remonstrance was impossible, and no steering could be done till the next varnishing day. During these bewildering intervals the ship usually sailed backwards.

Lewis Carroll said that.

I'll say this:

So I was just sitting here

enjoying a nice lunch of Mango Lemonade, deli thin sliced Italian dry salame, camembert, stone ground mustard, and pummelo, when the strangest thing happened.

My stomache did a jump. It's done that in the past when I've been free-falling, or when someone sneaks up behind me and scares me. But this time it seemed odd.

But odd is all about my life.

Greek to me

Today was a good greek day. I started off with Thenami rehearsal where we finished setting the opener (on our floor for the first time - yay). Then after having breakfast with the Primary I came back and finished rehearsal. Lunch was more greek with a gyro and yummy lemon-pepper fries and lemonade. Great stuff, that.

I saw Shasha as I was coming and going. Ben parked right in back of me and I though, what are Ben and Shasha doing here on a SATURDAY? Then he told me. Now I know.

I'm working on a script and soundtrack for a DVD (no, not JPII, it's from the trip). Other than that, my life is pretty boring. Oh, yeah, and I finished memorizing La Fille Aux Cheveaux de Lin the other day. Now I just have to keep going through it. I kind of dig that piece. Maybe I'll do Golliwog's Cakewalk next.

Ooh ooh ooh! I know! I haven't done any 'of the's in a while.

song of the day: Ross' Concert

movie quote of the day: MRS. MOORE: "My dear, life rarely gives us what we want at the moment we consider appropriate. Adventures do occur, but not punctually."
(Well, IMDB's movie quote of the day anyway - but I liked it so I put it here for your reading enjoyment.)

natural phenomenon of the day: sun pillar on the mountains

triumph of the day: my car's marker light hasn't fallen completely off yet

confusion of the minute: what was I clocked in for that got an error?

disappointment of the yesterday: sound and video were not, in fact, in sync

structure of the yesterday: Country Boy Dairy

best place to get a strawberry shake of all time: still Iceberg Drive-In

In case you were wondering, the measure of any food place that has shakes is their strawberry shake. Their standing in the ranks of restaurants is based upon this, and this alone. (Not really, but whenever I go to a place I've not eaten at before I always try their sb shake to see if it passes the test.)

Testimonial

Here at Geiko, we find that our advertising is more effective if we have testimonials from actual Geiko customers. So here's one now:

"Hi. My name is Mary and I definitely prefer peaches in Light syrup."

There you have it, Ladies and Gentlemen. An actual testimonial from a real Geiko customer.

I love radio commercials.

Ok, so really, I just wanted to say that money does not equal happiness. I just got my check from WSU yesterday for my grant money for this semester, bought my first car today, and recently got another better-paying job. I have money for everything I need and plenty to spare. Cory even gave me money for a textbook I'm borrowing to him (which made me mad - I mean WHY can't people understand the difference between borrowing something to someone and renting it to them? I borrow things to my friends. I might rent things to people I don't know.) for the semester. But all that doesn't and can't buy the things that really matter.

Still, there is a silver lining to all this. Like Uncle Cullen said, money is just congealed energy. You have to decide when and how to release it to do the most good. Speaking of which, that reminds me of talking about the P.E.F. today in my Teachings of the Living Prophets class. I was absolutely astounded at the numbers associated with that program. Back when it was just very first starting out, someone (not sure who) said that President Hinckley would be remembered for this one thing more than any other thing during his entire time as president. The teacher said that there are currently 10,000 loans out at an average of $800 per loan. He also said that every last one of the loans is covered by the interest alone from the fund. The principle remains completely untouched. They are also thinking of expanding the program to countries outside Central and South America. Eventually I believe they want it to be available to every area where it would be beneficial. And to think of the difference it makes for individuals and countries is more than I can mentally grasp.

Anyways, I thought that was cool.

Peace

Beginnings and Endings, Part II

All right, a quick blog then.

I now enter in upon the last day of my freedom. Many things end and pass into the realm of memory - the old year, the old semester, the vacation, some of my ASSP lab aide hours - while many things start anew - I got the STC job (this is my first day), new semester, new movie (Jinglesthula II is now being cut together), new weather (now it really is winter - and many such things.

What the new semester brings is anyone's guess. Hopefully classes will go well. I have two online classes and two regular classes. One of those is band, for which I haven't practiced my part for the big percussion piece as much as I should've (at all) over the break. Guess I know what I'll be doing for part of today and much of tomorrow.

My new boss is a very funny lady. She was showing me around and introducing me to people that work where I will now be working and we happened to walk past a conference room, the wall of which is floor to ceiling glass. The funny part was when she noticed that almost everyone in the meeting was chewing on a pen, and she said, "This is the pen eating meeting." Then she started laughing at them. All they saw was two people walk by and start laughing at them. She later told one of them why we were laughing. Aha ha ha ha.... ok, guess you had to be there.

Now it is time to do more editing on JPII. Take care, all.

Peace

I'm all made of hinges

and everything bends
from the top of my head
way out to my ends.
I'm hinges in front
and hinges in back.
It's a good thing I'm hinges
or else I would snap.

New primary class. New block time. I love primary songs. They're so cool.

To recap:
The party was great. I didn't die, but came close to it. I totally forgot the bacon and left it in the fridge instead of cooking it for breakfast. I got to bed around 5:30 or 6:00 New Year's Day. I wanted to sleep for 8 hours, but about 11AM I just couldn't sleep any longer. So I got up and cleaned the house. That was one fun party, even though I was still a 1/2 hour away from having the air hockey table fixed when 7:00 rolled around and people started showing up. There weren't nearly as many people there as there were for the last one, but I understand that a lot of people went home or had to play at the Jazz Ensemble's gig at Union Station (hey Ben, You could've come over after - Aaron and Kristen did :) j/k) and whatnot.

Well, I find out by Wednesday at the latest if I got the job I interviewed for last week. Better pay, more hours, more flexible hours, looks better on a resume. Yeah, I hope I get the job.

Jarrett and I worked on Jinglesthula II today and then went to the University Broiler for some good greek food. I should go there more often. That place has some great food. 'Specially the lemon pepper fries.

Thinking of fries makes me feel like falling down. Don't ask why. I really probably couldn't tell you.

Well, then. Nothing more from the Maaskealeneogelendigemenhaaberikkeland department today. And don't ask what that means either.

No more will be said today. Clear your mind of questions. I must meditate.
